Who is Jesus Christ? And what does it mean to be born again?

When Nicodemus, a Pharisee and teacher of Israel, encountered Jesus Christ, he recognized that the signs Jesus performed could only come from God. Yet Christ confronted this religious man with a startling truth:

"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." — John 3:3 (ESV)

Born again? How can a man be born a second time, and why would someone as religious as Nicodemus need such a thing?

Here lies the very heart of the gospel.

Our greatest problem is not a lack of knowledge, morality, or religious devotion, but the condition of our hearts (Ephesians 2:1). How can those who are spiritually dead make themselves alive?

They cannot.

What we cannot accomplish for ourselves, God alone can do.

To be born again is not to become a better version of ourselves, but to be given a new heart and new life by the Holy Spirit through the sovereign grace of God (Ezekiel 36:26–27).

Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, sinners are offered forgiveness and eternal life.

This hoodie bears witness to a profound truth: Salvation is not the achievement of man, but the gracious work of God.

Have you merely heard of Jesus Christ, or has God opened your eyes to see who He truly is and given you a new heart to trust in Him?
